Why Everyone Suddenly Can’t Stop Talking About Generative AI

A few years ago, if you mentioned artificial intelligence in a casual conversation, most people would probably think about robots, futuristic movies, or something happening deep inside Silicon Valley research labs.

Fast forward to today, and everything feels different.

Now, almost everyone has interacted with AI in some way — even people who have never cared about technology. Maybe you’ve used a chatbot to answer a question, generated an image from a text prompt, asked an AI to help write an email, or watched videos showing machines creating things that used to require hours of human work.

And honestly, it all happened incredibly fast.

One minute, AI felt like some distant concept. The next, it was sitting inside our browsers, our phones, our workplaces, and slowly becoming part of everyday life.

But here’s what I find fascinating.

Millions of people are already using AI tools… while not really understanding what AI actually is.

Some people think AI is becoming conscious. Others believe it thinks exactly like a human brain. Some fear it will replace every job in existence. Others think it’s just another productivity tool with better marketing.

The reality?

It’s somewhere in the middle.

And if we want to understand where all of this is going, we first need to understand what Generative AI really is.
